Veteran Zimbabwe conservationist Steve Kok has been killed by a wounded buffalo he had spent days tracking. The buffalo—one of the most aggressive creatures in the African bush—had partially severed its leg in a poacher's trap and surrounding communities had been warned the animal was highly dangerous, the AP reports.
Kok, 71, was highly skilled in bushcraft. The anti-poaching campaigner spent most mornings patrolling the bush around Lake Kariba to remove wire snares and call in veterinary assistance for animals caught in poachers' traps. "His death is a huge blow for the wildlife in Kariba," the head of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said. "He is going to be very badly missed by humans and animals alike."
