Pretty Women Who Want 'Manly' Jobs: Get Ugly

Thinking about buying a sexy new outfit to up your chances at scoring a new job? Think again…if you’re a woman applying to be, say, a tow truck driver. A new study shows that attractive women are actually less likely to be hired to fill positions that are seen as “masculine,” the Daily Mail reports. When it comes to jobs like prison guard, security director, and hardware salesperson, “being attractive was highly detrimental to women,” says the lead researcher.

However, attractive women were still favored in “feminine” jobs, and attractive people still tend to get higher salaries and better evaluations, according to the study published in the Journal of Social Psychology. Good news, men: If you’re attractive, you always have an advantage…“which shows that there is still a double standard when it comes to gender,” says the lead researcher.
