Thai authorities are investigating allegations that Joran Van der Sloot tried to get involved in human trafficking, reports the National Enquirer. Van Der Sloot, 22, allegedly posed as a model scout while living in Bangkok, where a Dutch journalist set up a sting and busted him. "He promised they'd make big money and live a luxurious life," the journalist says of the accused murderer's alleged recruits. "In reality, his plan was that once they arrived in Holland, they'd be forced into prostitution in Dutch brothels."
Van der Sloot's scheme didn't succeed, but Thai police are concerned about other possible victims. "There are girls who went missing in Bangkok while van der Sloot was there," a source says. "Girls who are approached by sex traffickers here often get killed, especially if they discover they are being tricked into prostitution and start to resist or threaten to go to the police."
