Regis Philbin will return to the game show format with a remake of the classic “Password” called “Million Dollar Password.” CBS has ordered six hour-long episodes to be aired later this season, Variety reports; a channel exec was excited to score the “ever-enthusiastic” host, who helped spur the quizzer comeback in 1999 with “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
The show premiered on CBS in 1961 with daytime and primetime versions; it’s been revived three times since, including stints on ABC and NBC. The newest version will have two teams—each composed of one celebrity and one ordinary citizen—competing to communicate passwords; the victors will choose whether to risk their winnings in a bonus round worth $1 million dollars.
