Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs had little to be thankful for a day after Canada’s Thanksgiving. The home town crowd saw their team lose to the Carolina Hurricanes, 7-1, dropping their record to 1-2-1. Toronto center Mats Sundin said that “there are no excuses” for the lack of effort the team showed, reports the Globe and Mail.

The Hurricanes improved to 2-1-1 thanks to goalie Cam Ward’s 27 saves and Justin Williams and Matt Cullen, who each had three points. The win moves Carolina 2 points from first in the Southeast division. The lone bright spot for the Leafs came when Sundin’s first period assist gave him 916 career points with Toronto, tying Darryl Sittler for the franchise record. (More Toronto Maple Leafs stories.)
