Mayor Bloomberg is giving the New York's marriage bureau a multi-million dollar facelift in an effort to make the Big Apple the US wedding capital. And, the New York Post reports, he's putting his personal interior decorator in charge. New York is currently second to Las Vegas, but getting to the top will likely bolster the tourism industry.
At the moment, husbands- and wives-to-be must go through metal detectors and sit on plastic chairs before tying the knot. "I feel like I'm at the DMV," one man said of the current location. Plans aim to amp up the romance to attract out-of-state couples: the new space will include a 6,000-square-foot expansion, marble floors, and vanity rooms. (More interior design stories.)
