The University of Connecticut women's basketball team rallied tonight after a horrible first half to beat Stanford, 53-47, for its second consecutive undefeated championship season. The Huskies finished this season 39-0 and have won 78 games in a row. Coach Geno Auriemma's squad is now in position to challenge the UCLA men's team's record of 88 wins in a row.
Held to only five points through the first 12 minutes and trailing 20-12 at the break, Auriemma's Huskies bounced back and played like champs to claim their seventh national title. All of the Huskies' previous wins in the streak were by double digits. (More NCAA women's basketball stories.)
