Palin Fizzles in Fox Debut

Sarah Palin's new television show is like Sarah Palin—fuzzy on the details—but this time really dull, notes reviewer Hank Stuever. Real American Stories, which debuted last night, is a montage of college-aspiring poor kids, loyal dogs and soldiers whose plucky triumphs are meant to "reaffirm" what it means to be American, notes Stuever in the Washington Post. What we got instead was an hour's worth of "nebulous platitudes" and "infotainment."

The core message, "America is great," is "pointless to argue" and plenty old, Stuever says. No fun "hopey-changey, no missed cues." The show is "innocuous, flat and political in only the most coded of ways," sort of like "a Barbara Walters special for that consumer who always complains that they never report any good news." Sound annoying? It is. "But since when was being annoying any barrier to doing bad television?" Stuever quips.
