Protesters clashed with security forces in Tehran today as hundreds of thousands of people mobbed the streets to mark Iran's Revolution Day, witnesses reported. Police fired bullets and teargas at supporters of opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi who were holding a rally in downtown Tehran, according to an activist website run by Iran's Green Voice.

Another site said opposition leader Mahdi Karroubi and ex-president Mohammad Khatami were attacked when they attended the rally. Reports could not be confirmed by the media because journalists were confined to pro-government rallies where citizens held aloft images of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to mark the 31st anniversary of the nation's Islamic revolution, reports MSNBC.
