If, like many, your interest in the Vancouver Games is lukewarm (kinda like the weather keeping the ski slopes snow-free), Esquire provides a list of the don’t-miss Olympic moments. Some highlights:
- Friday: Opening ceremonies. Vancouver’s spending less than half the $100 million Beijing did in 2008. Or you can rent Strange Brew.
- Saturday: See Apolo Anton Ohno go for a US-record sixth winter medal—as he and his fellow speed skaters sport the Stephen Colbert logo.
- Feb. 17: Snowboarding kicks off, as “the athletes most likely to mistake the Olympic torch for a joint take to the half-pipe.”
- Feb. 19: Canadian-turned-American Tanith Belbin will set a world record—“for the number of men watching ice dancing.”
- Feb. 20: American Shani Davis, the first black athlete to win individual winter gold, looks to add to his collection in speed skating.
- Feb. 25: US women’s hockey looks for redemption in the gold-medal game after its very disappointing ’06 bronze. Assuming the icers get there.
