Minister Skewers 'Stalinist' Journo Over McItaly Rip

After a British writer ripped into the Italian government for not only allowing but wholeheartedly endorsing a new line of McDonald’s burgers linked to the Italy’s famous cuisine, the country’s agriculture minister fired right back, attacking the writer as “Stalinist” and for “baying at the moon.” The Guardian’s Matthew Fort let a “sterile moral orthodoxy” get the better of him, Luca Zaia writes in a letter to the newspaper.

“With regret,” Zaia continues, “we are forced to deliver bad news to this kind of left: Stalin is dead. And we can safely bet he never set foot in a McDonald’s.” He goes on to skewer Fort as the type to “run towards the ‘Organic Food’ aisles of supermarkets with their heavy wallets and light consciences.” Responds Fort: “It’s a good knockabout … (but) a depressing reflection of the gap that exists between Italian political life and the lives of Italian citizens.”
