Colts Owner, NFL Chief Slam Limbaugh Comments

Rush Limbaugh's bid for the St. Louis Rams is looking increasingly hopeless: Colts owner Jim Irsay said today he "couldn't even think of voting for him" and didn't plan on discussing the bid with other NFL owners, reports NBC's Pro Football Talk. "I'm very sensitive to know there are scars out there." Commissioner Roger Goodell, meanwhile, said "divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about."

Irsay's comments signal that fellow owners would be unlikely to allow a successful bid involving Limbaugh, who once asserted that Donovan McNabb got favorable treatment in the press because he's black. "Our words do damage and it's something that we don't need." Goodell said league leaders are held to a "high standard," notes the New York Times. "I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL. Absolutely not."
