It was a little thing. After Tuesday’s powwow with the president on Afghan strategy, Harry Reid emerged from the White House with Nancy Pelosi and announced: “Everyone said that ‘whatever decision you make, we will support it,’” as the House speaker rolled her eyes. Though she maintains she's "not upset," it's clear that the question of whether to send more troops to Afghanistan is a decisive issue among Democrats, notes Politico.
The two deny any rancor, of course. “I don’t know where you would have heard such a thing,” Pelosi says. Reid had appeared to sense her discomfort during the press briefing and backed off his remarks, saying he meant only that all were in agreement that the president was, in fact, the commander in chief and set military policy. The two top Democrats are understandably divided, as Pelosi was elevated to power on her progressive credentials, while Reid may have to lean right to save his seat in 2010.
