An Ohio congressman was found dead today in his Washington apartment, the AP reports. Authorities are not sure what killed Paul Gillmor, whose aides found him after he failed to show up for work. The 68-year-old Republican, a member of Congress since 1988, represented Ohio’s Fifth District and was a reliable conservative on social issues.
After announcing the death on the floor of the House, fellow Ohio Republican John Boehner, the minority leader, said Gillmor was "a good friend to all of us," adding, "He's going to be missed by all of us." Gillmor was a strong advocate for the environment and financial service reforms. He is survived by a wife and five children. (More Paul Gillmor stories.)
