Would-be Philadelphia District Attorney Michael Untermeyer has outfitted himself with a stylish new accessory—an electronic ankle monitor, of the kind he’d like to slap on the city’s criminals, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. For the next 30 days, curious voters will be able to keep tabs on him via his website 24 hours a day.
Untermeyer wants the city to switch to monitoring some inmates instead of jailing them. “This will save the city millions and, more important, save lives,” the Republican told reporters. But his opponent, Democrat Seth Williams, called it a “gimmick” and said Philly’s problems were too complex for a mere ankle bracelet to solve. (More Philadelphia stories.)
