Police say they’ve found no evidence linking Phillip Garrido—alleged to have abducted a California girl and imprisoned her for 18 years—to a series of unsolved murders of prostitutes in the late 1990s, the Contra Costa Times reports. After Garrido, a registered sex offender, was apprehended with missing Jaycee Lee Dugard, authorities began digging for clues about killings near where Garrido worked in neighboring Pittsburg.

"Aside from a few items that will require further forensic examination before they can be completely excluded," a police spokesman said, "we did not locate any evidence to connect the Garridos to Pittsburg's unsolved cases."
