Palin Can Write Her Own Ticket—If She Wants To

Private citizen Sarah Palin has a lengthy to-do list, and Job No. 1 is shaping her public image as she closes the book on a topsy-turvy year, writes Dan Balz in the Washington Post. “Palin Year One was the introduction of a persona, and the construction (and destruction) of legend around it,” said a former adviser. “Year Two and beyond will be defined by her capacity for reinvention.”

She has an eagerly anticipated book to write, her tumultuous personal life to manage, and big decisions to make regarding her role on the national scene. In a recent poll, 53% of Americans said they look unfavorably on her. "It's unquestionable that she has a future in the GOP, but it's a bit more in doubt whether she has a future with the general electorate," says a Republican pollster. “She has a considerable rehabilitation job ahead of her to win the support of non-GOPers.”
