A pair of British fraudsters who enjoyed a "champagne and cocaine lifestyle" spent their last days drinking sea water and urine on a stolen yacht, an inquest was told yesterday. The bodies of the couple, who stole a boat and became fugitives while awaiting trial for hoodwinking wealthy investors, were found aboard the vessel as it drifted off the coast of West Africa, the Times of London reports. Diary entries suggest they starved to death.

The inquest heard excerpts describing storm damage and a lack of provisions. "We have been bashed about for days," read one entry from the woman, 46. "Everything takes huge amounts of energy, having consumed no water yesterday. I am tired now and the light’s going."
