Philip Markoff spoke a resounding “not guilty” at his arraignment today for the murder of a masseuse, the Boston Globe reports. Prosecutors described “brutal” attacks against three women as the so-called “Craigslist killer” was arraigned on seven charges, including first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed kidnapping, armed assault, and illegal possession of firearms. Victims, witnesses, and Markoff’s fiancée testified before a grand jury.
Prosecutors said Markoff used another man’s driver’s license to buy the gun that killed Julissa Brisman. Police don’t think that man was involved in the crime. Prosecutors said they weren’t “sure” how Markoff got the license, but that his fingerprints were on gun-registration papers. Markoff engaged in “a very, very violent struggle” with Brisman before shooting her, the district attorney said. (More Philip Markoff stories.)
