Self-defense played no role in the killing of 21-year-old rap artist Dolla, who was not a gang member, his family tells MTV. Aubrey Berry, 23, pleaded not guilty yesterday to murder and assault charges, saying he shot Roderick Burton in self-defense Monday in Los Angeles. His claim "is very colorful but the fact is that he traveled from Atlanta with a loaded firearm—for which he didn't possess a carry permit," a Burton family rep said.

“There are three victims in this case, none of which is Aubrey Berry,” he said, noting Berry’s attempt to shoot Burton’s cousin and friend. Burton “has been a recording artist," not a gang member, for years, he added. Berry is being held on $5 million bail.
