Kosher Tequila? Passover Choices Widen

The kosher alcohol scene has long been dominated by sweet Manishevitz, but that old standby is getting a run for its money as premium wines, and even hard liquor, are crossing the kosher barrier. Making kosher product has many restrictions, but entrepreneurs seem to think Jewish tipplers are in the mood for something different. The Los Angeles Times checked in on the trend.

Passover, when celebrants traditionally imbibe 4 cups of wine, is seen as a market ripe for upscale offerings. That has led not only to a $200 bottle of kosher Napa Valley Cabernet, but also kosher tequila and kosher sugar cane vodka, which don’t contain grain and thus pass Passover muster. But don’t go crazy at the table, one rabbi said. “One margarita is great; 10 might be an issue,” he said. “You will never make it through the Seder.” (More Judaism stories.)
