Lobbyist Linked to McCain Ends Times Suit

Vicki Iseman, the lobbyist whose relationship with John McCain was the subject of an explosive New York Times article during the 2008 campaign, has settled her lawsuit against the paper. Iseman will receive no payment, and the Times has not retracted the article, which seemed to imply that she and McCain had an affair. But in an uncommon move, the paper has published a letter from Iseman's lawyers on its website.

The February 2008 front-page article said that during McCain's 2000 presidential run, some of his advisers urged him to stay away from Iseman, fearing their relationship had become romantic. A joint statement in today's paper says that "the article did not state, and The Times did not intend to conclude, that Ms. Iseman had engaged in a romantic affair with Senator McCain."
