Last week Barack Obama's team chose Denver for the site of a stimulus rally like the one in Elkhart, Ind., but now that the bill’s been passed, the visit Wednesday has been repurposed as a bill signing. In both cases, the point of picking Colorado was to highlight what Gov. Bill Ritter calls the state's “new energy economy,” the Denver Post reports.
Colorado has invested heavily in wind, solar, and other renewable energies, and expects to receive more than $130 million in support for clean energy and weatherization projects. “This is like a dream,” said the director of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, which boasts a solar array that produces 100 kilowatts of energy. Colorado’s Democrats are ecstatic, and even a Republican congressman notes that while she “regrets” the bill’s passage, it’s “a great honor” to have it signed there.
