Former eBay chief Meg Whitman is officially running for governor of California, but she still has some details to work out, reports the LA Times. She’s studied up on issues, but isn’t yet a master of political positioning (on hot-topic school vouchers: “I don't know the answer to that question”), and seems to take a contradictory stance at times (she supported Prop 8, but thinks pre-Prop 8 marriages should be upheld).
Whitman is defining herself as former Gov. Pete Wilson’s heir—perhaps a notch to the right of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Whitman praises Wilson, her campaign chairman, saying, “I trust his judgment back then.” She also criticizes Schwarzenegger’s environmental standards as ill-timed. “I probably wouldn’t be doing things that damage the car companies at this very minute.” Mainly, though, she’s still figuring it out. On reporting undocumented immigrants in schools: “I want to think about that a little bit."
