LAPD Probes Brown as Rihanna Recovers

Chris Brown is lying low in a Hollywood hotel while Los Angeles police continue to investigate whether he beat up his girlfriend Rihanna, E! Online reports. A source close to the probe says Brown "fled on foot" yesterday after the alleged assault, and LAPD found her "beaten really badly and hysterical" in a rented Lambourghini. Now, her people want to get her back to Barbados. "They want to keep her away from Chris right now," a source says.

Rihanna's music label, Def Jam Records, has scrapped a glitzy 21st birthday party for her, and says she may cancel an upcoming tour of Asia. As for Brown, Wrigley is pulling Doublemint gum advertisements featuring the singer pending the outcome of the case. The only good news for Brown: LAPD today denied a TMZ report that he had used "a deadly weapon" in the alleged assault.
