Hollywood will try to cut its pigeon population by lacing rooftop feeders with birdie birth control. The contraceptive OvoControl P is meant to reduce the spectacular amount of pigeon poop flooding from above, the LA Times reports, and even PETA is on board. "We would much rather they use contraception than poison or anything harmful," says a Humane Society exec.
It costs more than tuppence a bag: $60,000 for the first year. The neighborhood is home to some 5,000 pigeons, a number the civic association expects to see cut in half within 5 years. It also needs to hold off the woman who distributed tons of birdseed, the association's president says, "which translates to a staggering amount of pigeon poop." (More pigeon stories.)
