Guests sipped cocktails, nibbled appetizers, and took photos with the notorious garment, which was so important to its original owner that he sued his dry cleaners for $54 million. He lost, but the cleaners still have legal bills.
Jin Nam Chung and Soo Chung owe their lawyers $100,000,the AP reports. Organizers used the event, which attracted guests from all over the country, to help chip away at the bill and raise awareness of tort reform. Donations hit $64,000, which will go to charity if the court requires the plaintiff to pay their tab, as the Chungs have requested. (More pants stories.)
