For someone who hopes to be a US senator, Caroline Kennedy has turned out to be a surprisingly unenthusiastic fan of voting, the New York Daily News has discovered. Kennedy has voted in only about half of 38 elections since moving to the city in 1988, according to records. She skipped a number of primaries to choose a Democratic mayoral candidate and dodged the general election in 1994 that decided a race for the seat Kennedy hopes to hold.
Kennedy’s record “doesn't speak to a deep-felt commitment to the electoral process,” said a political scientist. But aides defended her voting history. Kennedy "recognizes just how important it is to vote and has a very strong record of going to the polls," a spokesman said. "She has not voted on a handful of occasions over the last two decades."
