McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told Fox News Sunday that the Republicans will seize Pennsylvania and the Southwestern states for a come-from-behind finish on Tuesday, the Hill reports. “John McCain may be the greatest closer politician of all time,” he said. Other highlights from the talk shows:

  • An anti-Obama statement from Hillary Clinton dating back to the Democratic primary races is now being used in GOP robo-calls, CNN’s Late Edition reports. Clinton says: “Sen. McCain will bring a lifetime of experience to the campaign, and Sen. Obama will bring a speech he gave in 2002,” Politico reports.

  • Republican Senatorial Committee chair John Ensign told Face The Nation that the financial crisis was a “body blow” to GOP chances on Tuesday, the Hill reports. “Unfortunately, it was allowed to be portrayed that this was a result of deregulation, when in fact it was a result of overregulation,” he said.
  • Washington Post columnist David Broder told Meet The Press that the selection of Sarah Palin as a running mate will damage the GOP in the Philadelphia suburbs, weakening Republican odds in Pennsylvania, Politico reports.
  • Obama strategist David Axelrod dodged questions from This Week’s George Stephanopoulos about the possibility of hiring ex-lobbyists in a Democratic White House, Politico reports.
