Economist: Obama Is Worth the Risk

Barack Obama and John McCain are both great contenders, the Economist writes, but “the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence.” Given Obama’s inexperience and decidedly left-wing outlook, “voting for him is a risk. Yet it is one America should take, given the steep road ahead.”

Once upon a time, McCain was a true maverick, bucking party orthodoxy and speaking his mind. “That, however, was Senator McCain; the Candidate McCain of the past six months has too often seemed the victim of political sorcery,” with the choice of Sarah Palin his most egregious error. An Obama victory, on the other hand, would tell the country and the world that America is ready to move forward.
