When Sarah Palin ran for governor, she made a point of not taking any money from VECO, an oil company at the center of a corruption scandal. But she did take, and will now give to charity, donations of $1,000 each from two politicians indicted for their role in the scandal, and another $1,000 from one of their wives.
One of the tainted politicians actually gave to Palin after she had called on him to resign in 2006. Her spokesman says she was unaware of the donations, and she gave the total $3,000 to a local charity a few hours after the AP reported the story. Both John McCain and Barack Obama have returned tainted donations over the years, most notably from Charles Keating and Tony Rezko, respectively.
