Rob Gronkowski says his salary from his long NFL career is still sitting in the bank. Appearing on the Bussin' With the Boys podcast, the former star tight end said he has "technically" never tapped into the roughly $60 million he earned in league salary over his career, instead living off endorsements and other off-field income. Gronkowski, who was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2010, said his cautious streak started with his first $50,000 bonus from his agent, the Hill reports.

"You've got to pay him back over the time, the first 50 grand you made," Gronkowski said, per People. "I actually took that 50 grand and I bought me a car, I paid for my spot up in New England, actually, with it." He said he was "very frugal" and lived with a roommate for the first couple of years. The 36-year-old four-time Super Bowl champ, who retired in 2022, said he didn't know how long his NFL career would last. "I was a second-round pick, so it was like a four-year, $4 million deal, and I was like, if I can play this contract out, I'll be set for life," he said.

Gronkowski, now a Fox NFL analyst, said he decided early on to bank every dollar from the NFL and cover his lifestyle only with money from sponsorships and appearances. Celebrity Net Worth estimates his fortune at about $45 million, built on contracts that included a six-year, $54 million extension with the Patriots in 2012 and a later stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "I just always wanted to save it, and I just used my money that I was getting off the field to just spend it on whatever I needed to spend it on," he said. "Technically, I have not spent any of my NFL money."
