As the Russia-Ukraine peace talks continue, Vladimir Putin is flexing. Russia and Belarus unveiled images and video of Moscow's powerful new Oreshnik missile systems being set up at undisclosed locations in Belarus' forests, reports Reuters. The missiles are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and Putin has boasted that they are so fast—at 10 times the speed of sound—they are virtually impossible to intercept, per the Guardian.
Putin also has warned that Russia could use the intermediate-range missiles against European allies helping Kyiv in its attacks on Russia, notes the AP. It would take only 11 minutes for one to reach an air base in Poland, and 17 minutes to reach NATO headquarters. Some US researchers, drawing on satellite imagery, believe the systems and their mobile launchers are being based at a former airfield in eastern Belarus, though the video did not reveal an exact location.
