He may be getting less press attention than Sarah Palin's pets but there's another vice-presidential candidate in this race and he's been blasting John McCain all across the Rust Belt, the New York Times reports. Joe Biden barely mentions Palin in his fiery speeches to crowds of varying size, but he is unsparing in his criticism of the "out-of-touch" McCain.

Reporters are thin on the ground at Biden speeches—and it tends to be just his gaffes that make the news—but his message resonates with working-class voters unsure of Obama. Biden "is a guy who I really believe, who really seems like he is going to help us out,” said a UPS worker who attended a rally in Ohio. “He sounds like someone who knows how we’re struggling.” (More vice presidential candidate stories.)
