A secret Al-Qaeda cell of foreign doctors working under cover of British hospitals is being investigated as the key source of the string of car bombing attempts that rocked Britain over the weekend, the Independent reports. Five of of eight people who have been arrested are believed to be doctors, and one is a physician's wife and medical assistant.

A man also believed to be a medical worker was captured in Australia yesterday as the police carried out 19 raids and detained nationals from Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Foreign nationals working in a respected  profession with no known record present a new set of challenges for UK law enforcement. Past attacks have been attributed to native-born extremists.
