Cape Cod Shop Hides Extract From Boozers

Devious drinkers have compelled at least one Massachusetts shop to put vanilla extract behind the counter, the Cape Cod Times reports. Owners of Stop & Shop in the town of Sandwich recently discovered empty bottles of the baking product stashed around the store. The extract can contain up to 35% ethyl alcohol, the same kind found in beer. "Some of them are pretty high—content wise," a police office said.

“It's on the rare side,” he added of the baking aisle abuse. “You have to be really hard-core. It would make you sick unless you're used to some bizarre stuff.” Other supermarkets on Cape Cod have yet to follow Stop & Shop's lead, but extract may be only the beginning: Police have also seen customers swilling mouthwash and aftershave for a quick buzz.
