'My Muslim Faith' Quote Not a Slip, Just Misinterpreted

Reports that Barack Obama mistakenly revealed his “Muslim faith” in a television interview are ridiculous, Frank James writes in the Chicago Tribune. Talking with George Stephanopoulos about suggestions he is a Muslim, Obama agreed “that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith.” Stephanopoulos corrected him, saying “Christian faith,” and Obama corrected the apparent gaffe, setting conservative blogs abuzz.

But had Obama “used an exaggerated air quotes sign,” James writes, “Stephanopoulos would've gotten what he was saying and wouldn't have felt the need to correct him, leaving the impression that Obama had some sort of Freudian slip. Obama didn't. The people trying to push this as some kind of slip in which Obama revealed his true religious allegiance are wrong to do this.
