Trade Short of Super for Favre
"To come out of retirement and have only hopes of a wild-card berth has to be disappointing to Favre," Clayton writes.   (AP Photo)

Brett Favre's trade to the New York Jets "is a thumbs down for the surefire Hall of Fame quarterback," John Clayton writes on ESPN.com. Favre might’ve had a shot at returning to the Super Bowl by staying with Green Bay or going to Minnesota or Tampa Bay. But stuck behind the New England Patriots, “he can think only of wild-card playoff berths.”

“If his heart wasn't into competing against Aaron Rodgers for the starting job in Green Bay,” Clayton wonders, “how is Favre going to be at playing second fiddle to Tom Brady in the AFC East?” And having lost a test of wills with Green Bay—where he’s still an icon—isn’t going to cheer him, either.
