Democrats Will Keep Control of Senate

Next month's Georgia Senate runoff won't decide who controls the chamber after all. Democrats clinched it Saturday night when Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto won her close race over the GOP's Adam Laxalt. The AP called the race before 10pm Eastern, and various other outlets did as well, including CNN and NBC News. Her victory means that Democrats will have at least 50 seats in the new Senate, which gives them the edge because of VP Kamala Harris' tie-breaking vote.

"Democrats will have a majority again in the Senate!" tweeted Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. "This election is a victory and vindication for Democrats, our agenda and our accomplishments, and for America and the American people." The chamber is currently split 50-50. If Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock wins his runoff over Herschel Walker on Dec. 6 in Georgia, Democrats would end up with a 51-49 edge, one better than the current 50-50 mark. As for which party will control the House, stay tuned. About 20 races still are undecided, and while Republicans have the edge, it's not a lock. (More 2022 midterms stories.)
