Heidi Klum's annual Halloween party—and the elaborate costumes she wears to them—have become near legendary. This year was no exception, but it was a different kind of jaw-dropping look: The model dressed as a worm. As Vogue explains, the costume was a long time coming. COVID prevented her from throwing Halloween parties in 2020 and 2021, and "I wanted this year's party to be better than ever—and that means my costume needed to be more magical than in the [years] past." If you're wondering what makes a worm costume magical, she elaborates: It took her two years to come up with the idea, which she says she wanted to be "super absurd, but also very familiar ... creepy ... also a bit gross and disgusting."
Longtime collaborator/makeup artist Mike Marino and his team at Prosthetic Renaissance crafted the costume, but only after Marino tried to push her to dress as something else. "However, I am not like that," Klum explains. "When I fall in love with an idea, I do not want to pivot." She sounds pretty enamored of worms, too. "There are so many subtle colors of pinks and browns within its body. And the way their segmented anatomy allows them to move so seamlessly ... there is so much going on." Women's Health notes she didn't spend the whole night as an invertebrate: She later shed the costume to reveal a sparkly bare-it-all bodysuit.
