The Herschel Walker abortion saga continues. The GOP candidate for the US Senate out of Georgia has consistently pushed back on allegations that he paid for an ex's abortion, though in a Sunday chat with NBC News, Walker conceded on at least part of the story. "Yes, that's my check," he admitted in the interview that aired Monday on Today, in response to being presented with a copy of the $700 check he's said to have written out to that former partner—also the mother of one of his kids—for the procedure. However, Walker insisted he'd written checks to her "many" times and denied he knew the money in this case was going toward an abortion.
"I have no idea what that could be for," Walker said of the check. And of claims that he did? "It's a lie," Walker said. "Prove that I did that. Just to show me things like [the check] does nothing for me." The woman at the center of this story denied Walker ever gave her any other money before this payment, until they had a child together. Other comments that came out of the interview:
- Why voters should trust him: "Voters believe me because I've been very transparent about everything I've ever done. You know I wrote a book about everything I have done. I have not tried to hide one thing I've ever done."
- Past struggles with mental illness: "I’ve been redeemed. ... Everyone wants to talk about a house I used to live in. I don't live there no more. I moved out."
- On whether there's anything he likes about Joe Biden: "One thing that he's done that I support? He eats a lot of ice cream."
- His beliefs on whether the 2020 election was rigged: "I have no idea and I don't care. What I care about is this election coming up in November."
- Trump coming to campaign with him? "Oh, if I needed him, he'll come," Walker said, per CNN, adding that Trump, who has endorsed him, called him after his Friday night debate against Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock.
