What residents describe as routine arboricultural care in their tree-lined California neighborhood ended in tragedy on Tuesday. Authorities say a tree trimmer working in Menlo Park, located on the outskirts of San Francisco, was killed after he fell or was pulled into a wood chipper shortly before 1pm, reports the AP. When police arrived on the scene, the worker was already dead from his injuries. The San Mateo County Coroner's Office isn't releasing any information on the man's identity until next of kin is notified, per NBC News.
Fellow workers from the FA Bartlett Tree Expert Company who were at the scene of the accident said their company wouldn't be releasing a statement, per ABC7. Locals, meanwhile, are horrified. "We all feel sick and sad," one resident tells the network. "We're trying to imagine what the poor family and their fellow workers are feeling. And it's just, it's a lot."
