Hillary Clinton has long flirted with the speculation that she might jump into the 2020 race for president, but with the primaries officially underway, that speculation seems likely to end. But what about vice president? "I never say never, because I do believe in serving my country. But it's not going to happen." That was Clinton's response when Ellen DeGeneres asked Thursday what she'd say if asked to run as VP, although her initial reply was "No, probably no." Interestingly, just a few days ago, Douglas MacKinnon wondered at the Hill whether Clinton might be "angling to become vice president." MacKinnon says "several politically savvy Democrats" have told him Clinton's camp might be secretly conferring with Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, or another candidate, particularly due to the possibility of a brokered Democratic convention.

"I am assured that Clinton is on every short list for that position," MacKinnon writes, calling it a "plausible and powerful scenario" for the summer nominating convention, at which it's a possibility there might be no clearly viable nominee. "If she truly has learned something, then having Clinton entertain the thought of 'saving' the Democratic ticket as a vice presidential running mate could be a brilliant political move," MacKinnon writes. As for Clinton's sit-down with DeGeneres, HuffPost reports she also talked Trump's acquittal—Mitt Romney "gave an extraordinary speech on the floor of the Senate talking about why ... he was going to vote to convict on one of the articles of impeachment," she said, praising him for being the only Republican "willing to take a stand"—and Today notes she also discussed Hulu's new four-part docuseries on her, which revisits her husband's affair with Monica Lewinsky.
