Many liberals are pining for James Webb to be added to a Barack Obama ticket, but the Virginia senator is “completely unacceptable”—severely lacking on affirmative action (which he has called “state-sponsored racism”), on women’s issues (he’s said females in the military “poison” the environment for men) and on temperament, Kathy G. writes in the Atlantic.
Vacating a red-state Senate seat is no good, for one thing. And Webb certainly hasn't proven he can "watch his mouth;" he’s also got a long record of gaffes waiting to be exposed. "Just his presence on the ticket would throw the Obama campaign seriously off-message," Kathy G. writes. And, no, he's not going to help Obama with the white working-class vote, either.
