A hiker from Minnesota was killed on Christmas Eve by one of the world's most majestic trees. Authorities say 28-year-old Edina resident Subhradeep Dutta was killed by a falling redwood tree in California's Muir Woods National Monument at around 4:40pm on Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. A woman who had been walking on the same trail was injured by falling debris while a third walker was uninjured, ABC7 reports. The tree was around 200 feet tall—taller than a typical 14-story building. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area said in a statement that the tree fell "of natural, unknown causes following a persistent series of winter storms over the last week and a half."
