Looks like Meghan Markle got some of the "truthful reporting" she's been wanting. The Duchess of Sussex let a Telegraph reporter join her on a trip to a non-profit for disadvantaged women, where tears flowed around a freshly baked cake. "I find that when you strip all the layers away, as people, and especially as women, we can find deep connection with each other, and a shared understanding," she told a group of women at Luminary Bakery in London. "Our lives may be different," she said, but "our hopes, our fears, our insecurities" remain "very much the same. And there's comfort in that." In other moments:

  • One woman burst into tears after talking about an ex-partner who had stabbed her. The woman apologized, but Markle told her it's OK to be vulnerable: "We get into this habit of wanting things done immediately nowadays," she said, per the Evening Standard. "Here's a culture of instant gratification, of the instant fix. But we aren't mechanical objects that need to be fixed. You're a wounded creature that needs to be healed, and that takes time."
  • "That's what I love about this place," Markle added. "It gives you the support to heal. Society judges women for staying in abusive relationships, but I don't ever feel judged here. I feel I can be free, I feel I can be myself."
  • The Telegraph journalist, Bryony Gordon, seemed impressed. He called Markle "a doer, not a walloer. She lives in the solution, not the problem. She told me that she didn’t want people to love her—she just wanted them to be able to hear her."
  • See an Instagram video of Markle's visit to the bakery, which helps women who have endured "vulnerable circumstances" like poverty and abuse, and tries to give them confidence and employable skills.
