Energy Secretary Rick Perry has been subpoenaed by three House committees for documents in connection with their investigations into President Trump's communications with Ukraine. Perry has until Oct. 18 to turn over the files, Axios reports. News reports "have raised questions about any role you may have played in conveying or reinforcing the President’s stark message to the Ukrainian President," the chairmen of the Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees wrote to Perry on Thursday. Trump has said he spoke to President Volodymyr Zelensky in July at Perry's urging; that's the call that has prompted the House impeachment inquiry.
The committees want to know about that July call, when Trump asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, as well as whether Perry pushed Ukraine to change the board of its state-owned oil and gas company. Although Perry has acknowledged asking Trump to make the call, he's said that the Bidens were not mentioned, per Politico. At an Energy Department event last week, Perry said he'd cooperate with congressional investigators on the whistleblower complaint about Trump's Ukraine call. "I'll just briefly say we're going to work with Congress and answer all their questions," he said, per CNN. (Perry already appeared to be on his way out of the administration.)
