Anne Sacoolas, the 42-year-old wife of a US diplomat who fled the UK after a fatal Aug. 27 crash in which she claims diplomatic immunity, has no plans to return, according to notes provided to President Trump. A Washington Post photographer got a look at briefing notes given to Trump for a Wednesday press conference, per the Guardian. They stated that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had told UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab that Sacoolas "will not return" to the UK. The notes also stated that Sacoolas—who allegedly struck 19-year-old Harry Dunn on his motorcycle as she left a Northamptonshire military base used by the US Air Force—"will have to consider, based on the advice of her legal counsel, whether to make herself available for questioning by British authorities."

Trump went off-script when asked about the case. He said "the woman was driving on the wrong side of the road," which "can happen," per Sky News. "We're going to speak to her and see what we can come up with so there can be some healing," he added. Downing Street said Wednesday that Prime Minister Boris Johnson had asked Trump to waive Sacoolas' diplomatic immunity, though such a thing rarely happens, and "the leaders agreed to work together to find a way forward as soon as possible." Dunn's parents met with Raab on Wednesday. But mother Charlotte Charles said it felt like "a publicity stunt on the UK government side to show they are trying to help" since the couple came out of the meeting "with nothing." Civil action is now expected, per the Independent. (More diplomatic immunity stories.)
