Police in Virginia are praising a woman they've dubbed the "squirrel whisperer" for helping out a baby squirrel and its mother, per the AP. In a Facebook post, Pulaski police say officers received a call from a woman who told them a squirrel came up to her on a trail, blocked her way, and led her to the baby squirrel with an injured leg. Tia Powell told police that when she tried to walk away, the squirrel even tugged on her pants leg. That's when she realized a cat was ready to attack the squirrels, so she called police and a friend.
"In their defense, I did sound like a crazy lady saying the squirrels wouldn't let me leave," Powell tells CBS News. "But they showed up and assisted as much as they could." All involved were able to move the two squirrels to a different area with more trees (and less cats), and both mom and baby were able to climb up a tree to safety. "They looked very happy," says Powell.
