Mike Pence named a new press secretary this week, news that might not have made much of a splash save for one thing: Katie Waldman just happens to be the girlfriend of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, tweeted Nick Miroff of the Washington Post. That explains why "Dating Stephen Miller" was trending on Twitter, notes a none-too-flattering post at Splinter. Waldman, 27, had been working as communications chief for Arizona Sen. Martha McSally and, prior to that, for former Department of Homeland Security chief Kirstjen Nielsen.
In that DHS role, Waldman became a vocal defender of tough immigration policies at the border that Miller, 34, helped create in his White House role, per the Week. It's not clear when the two met. “She’s got extensive experience and she’ll be a great fit in our office,” Marc Short, Pence's chief of staff, tells NBC News. “She’s shown she has the mettle to handle intense environments.” (Miller reportedly has strong influence with the president when it comes to immigration.)
